I created a water color painting. I chose to do a painting of the East River and how the sun reflected the color scheme of the top of the river. While painting i noticed how the sky had blended in from a very light blue to spots of a heavy blue color. I think the light from the sun was so bright that it mad the horizon of the river very light in the sky. This water color was unique in its own way to me. I noticed that the east river can have many colors in it depending on the way u are shifting and looking at it. Walking the Brooklyn Bridge I saw that it had a brownish color to it. It looked nasty. But then when we were coloring on the pier in Brooklyn it looked green and spots of yellow with a hint of blue. I enjoyed the exercize.

The Ferry Ride

Last week in the middle of the course there was a trip to ride the Staten Island Ferry. I think that trip was a little interesting. Looking at the skyline from the boat i thought that there must of been alot of buildings that were being constructed around the same time period it kind of made me think of the city as a castle. I enjoyed taking pictures of the skyline. I seen how many tourist were amazed on the appearance of the skyline and how it changed angles as the ferry pulled away from Manhattan Island. I felt good on how people looked at my city and thought it was great in many contents.
My Building of my Building
I built a model of my Bryce building. Constructing it i was thinking how realistic it was. I made some changes based on its weight and realistic appearance. The objective of this model was to try and create our buildings as neat and simple as possible. Although with the use of cardboard, hot glue, and a pair of scissors. I would not do it with hot glue again because it burned me and it is too messy. I think my skyscraper came out better then i thought.

Credit Recovery Program--(Bryce)
After visting skyscrapers throughout New York City I think the objective of this class was for the students to have experience in what it feels like to create something of our own. It was very fun to learn about how architects thought. We had to think about how we would want our structures to be and how would its physical appearance will look. Everyday coming to the program there was a new curricular activities. With my knowledge from the course I picked up a lot of information about architects, Frank Gehry in particular. After that the I had to create a building of my own. First I sketched my thoughts in my sketch book using ideas that I have seen in the city. I tried to use the Bryce program on the computer to go about creating my skyscraper. This was a little challenging for me because it was my first time using the actual program. I was trying to create a modern style. I added different shapes and colors and combined what i could to make a skyscraper.
Frank Gehry PT 4

Gehry had now spent many years working in traditional architecture. He even designed his own firm where he could get many thoughts down. Some buildings that he designed became very famous wheather it was because of its location or the purpose of the building. He created the Ontario building the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Gehry Residence building the Weisman Art Museum and the Dancing House. He was a great architect that created structural building all over the globe. He had buildings in Germany, Spain, many buildings in California. In 1973 Gehry created the Easy Edges. They were a structural design that was very unique by its texture and appearance. He also had a great success finishing the Gehry Tower. Later Frank became Distinguished Professor architecture at Columbia University in New York. He also taught in Yale University. He was considered a modern architectural icon and celebrity. The thoughtful, natural, dramatic and impactful designs that were created within Frank’s designs allowed frank to be inspired of his own developments.

Frank Gehry’s career began to come to a great success when his friend, an artist Ron Davis asked him to work with him. This let Frank show inspiring ideas so that he can have a chance to develop his own personal style. Together they built the Ron Davis studio which they completed in 1972. In the 1970’s Frank was commissioned to designing and building many buildings, houses, museums, institutes, as well as restaurants. He thought each job that he did he can was a lesson to teach what he can do differently. He gained more and more knowledge about being an architect. Frank has worked with more friends that are architects, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. Projects with them also made Frank successful.
They designed the famous binoculars. In Santa Monica, California Frank worked with his friend Berta creating more luxurious ideas. Together they bought and worked on this house which attracted there attention. It was interesting, they wanted to change its appearance. Frank to care of remodeling the floors. He mixed concrete, metals, fencing, wood and glass and the house was very creative. The construction took place in 1978. The inside of the house was basically remodeled adding new floors and new supporting beams. It was a huge success. Frank is now in the beginning of his Architectural life.

Frank was excited about his education, which made him enjoy school. His favorite subject was mathematics. Going to school he even learned to speak a different language, which was Yiddish. Growing up he lived many places and experienced different kinds of people. When his family moved to Timmins, Ontario in Canada he saw how kids his age would tease him a lot just because of his heritage.Once he also resided in Europe. There he attended a French school. While Gehry was in California he attended Los Angeles City College. He had a negative spirit from his childhood life that he wanted to change. After part time classes in L.A.C.C. he then went to the University of South Carolina where he took full time classes. He took an art class but changed his mind. He realized that architecture was a good career for his life. After he graduated from U.S.C. he then joined the Private Class Army. While he was in the army his family moved to Fort Benning, Georgia. After the army he attended Harvard University Graduate School of Design where he studied City Planning. But sadly he was unhappy at that school, and left after his first year.

“ I approach each building as a sculptural object, a spatial container, a space with light and air, a response to context and appropriateness of feeling and spirit. ”
Frank Gehry
Frank Gehry was born on February 28 in 1929 with the name Ephraim Owen Goldberg. In Toronto, Canada his mother Thelma gave birth to him. Although he was born in Canada he was a resident in the United States as well. His father Irving Goldberg kept a strong Polish and Jewish heritage. Frank’s mother came from Poland with her parents. She was a part of the Jewish Women’s Organization as she raised Frank. On the other hand Frank’s father Ephraim was born to Polish immigrants in Brooklyn, New York. As a young boy Frank followed in his father's footsteps. At the age of 11 his father died so Frank began to fight in the streets for money just like his father. Irving had lots of jobs around the country but when he moved to Canada to take a job he met Thelma Frank's mother. After Frank's father grew sick Frank and his mother moved with the rest of the Goldberg family located in Los Angeles, California.

Skyscrapers are very unique in many ways. It is important for an architecture to create a safe, beautiful, creative design. Skyscrapers were like challenges because everytime onne was built another one will try to break the highest recored of a tall building. Architects had so much work to do so that they can finally build their buildings. They wanted it to be in a beautifull environment band create an outstanding job on the project.each skyscraper that has been built has there own significant meanings on why they are famous or why they are unique. Some of the most famous buildings were the Flat-Iron and the Met life building the Chrysler building as well as the Metropolitan Life Insurance buildings. All architects designed the skyscrapers to have a sucess within history.
KaHn
Architects are people who love to draw alot as well as think alot. Architects also plan alot a blueprint of a building or structural piece must be created. Architectures also design alot of thoughts. Designing is very important. Architects must be accurate as possible when designing. An architect that can convince poeple is very good architect such as Louis Kahn. You must have alot of money to offer. The kind of personality is need to become a architecture is an agressive type personality. You have to have a convincing attitude as well.
The United Nations HeadQuarters

The United Nations is a complex which was contructed in 1949 and completed in 1950. It is located in New York City in Turtle Bay which is in east Midtown. It is a huge land owning site taking up 17 acers of manhattan. Going from 42 street up to 48th street between First avenue and the East river. The personal architect for the United Nations was William Harrison. He also had some architectual work with the Rockefeller family. I thought of the United Nations as a secure place. Passing the site in a car it seems pretty empty within pedestrians. It seems weird because the city is a non-empty place to be.
The Chrysler Building

The Chrysler Building was founded in 1928. William Van Alen was the designer of the masterpiece. It was worlds tallest building during 1930 to 1931. Beat the level of 40 wall street. Reaching 77 floors the height of the building is 925 feet. The location of the building is on Lexington avenue. Some interesting facts that i have found out about the building is the there are 32 elevators throughout the building. The renovation of the building took place in 1978-1979. the top of the building was constucted by steel to support the spire. I enjoy the buildings apperence on the top. I like the lighting of the building as well and its shapes.

THE METROPOLITAN LIFE INSURANCE TOWER

The Metropolitan Life Insurance Tower is a unique building. It is located on Madison avenue between 23 and 24th streets. It was built in 1909. Napoleon LeBrun and Sons are the architects of the building. 700 feet and 213 meters complete the 50 stories of the building. It was the tallest building during 1909 all the way through 1913. I found out that the buildings design is inspired by the Campanile in Venice Italy in 1907. The Texture f the building is Tuckahoe marble but during the renovation in the 1960's limestone was used to recover its appearence. I was amazed when i first saw the building to think it has been the tall building amazed me because there are buildings way taller then 50 floors. I was atracted to the clock and the windows because there simple. The lighting really has a great effect on the buildings apperence.

Learning on the Flat-Iron Building

Daniel Burnham and John Wellborn Root was the architects of the Flat-Iron building, which was completed in the year 1902.The building has 22 stories which streches to the aproximate height of 285 feet and 87 meters. The exterior color of the buiding was limestone which stands out the Beaux-Artstyle. It includes many Greek columns. This Building is very unique to be stamped in between the narrow of the 5 avenue and Broadway. What i find so interesting about the building is the actual triangular shape. I think it is significant because it makes the block stand out. If i were to change the building I would add a clock perhaps on the top and have a roof top lunch deck. I remember the only time i have been in that building was when i went to the Sprint PCS store which is the base floor.
